Description: The Seventh Crusade was a crusade led by Louis IX (Saint Louis) of France from 1248 to 1254. Frankish crusaders manage to utilize civil war in the Ayyubid Sultanate where Ayyubid sultan As-Salih Ayyub was ill after bttling his uncle in Syria. Louis IX an his army manage to capture port-city of Damietta and advancing toward Ayyubid palace at Al-Mansourah. Nevertheless, King Louis's troops were defeated by the Ayyubid forces led by Emir Fakhrudin al-Shuyukh, whose army was supported by the Ayyubid Mamluks notably Aktai, Baibars, Qutuz, Aybak and Qalawun. Emir Fakhrudin al-Shuyukh was killed in the war, and Sultan As-Salih died from his illness, but Mamluks manage to turn the tide of war and captured King Louis IX and annihilating Crusader army, approximately 800,000 bezants were paid in ransom for his return. But Ayyubid sultanate finally facing greater threat than crusaders.
