Description: As Johnston continues to move his forces South towards Atlanta to protect the railroads from Sherman, he lays what he thinks will be a perfect trap in the narrow mountains of Northwest Georgia. Familiar with the territory, Sherman instead prepares his forces for 20 days of marching, and swings to Johnston's left, setting up the battles of New Hope Church, Pickett's Mill and Dallas. Dr. Chris Mackowski is the Editor-in-Chief of Emerging Civil War and Kris White is the Deputy Director of Education at the American Battlefield Trust.
