Description: Israel is expected to annex the West Bank territories this summer. The potential move is likely to have huge repercussions in the region, although a large-scale military confrontation is not very probable at this point. Given the fact that all neighboring countries are preoccupied with their own problems, Tel Aviv has a free hand to incorporate the Jordan Valley - which makes up almost 30 percent of the West Bank - and other strategically important Palestinian territories into the State of Israel. The United States already indicated that it might not object to the Israeli government's possible annexation of Jewish settlements in the West Bank, and other major powers might strongly condemn Israeli actions, but apart from empty rhetoric there is virtually nothing they will do to prevent the realization of Tel Aviv’s long-term plans.
