Description: Had a special day today. Was the first time I’ve had both my kids fish with me in over 10 years. When they were young they just wanted to do everything with me, hunting, fishing, diving, camping at the beach, eating fish heads….Looking back it was more about being together than the fishing or hunting. But it was that time together in the outdoors, getting a feed of something, learning to respect our land and sea, that created the memories that bond us. Hannah has been away at uni in Wellington and lost a bit of her barefoot-northland-hard, but despite being seasick, she battled a marlin in the heat and got one on her first day out gamefishing - when she was unsure about coming out this morning I said “if you come you’ll get a life experience, it might be good, it might be bad, but either way you’ll be better for it” …needless to say we got to share an awesome experience together. Shaw leadered Hannah’s marlin, the first one he’d gloved up on, and did it perfectly. After releasing Hannah’s first Marlin we headed back to get her on land….and we snuck the lures out, and Shaw got to catch a Marlin too. I had a sleep in, got up and did some jobs and popped out from home with the kids and caught two marlin in two hours, I’ve forgotten about hundreds of marlin catches, but these I’ll never forget.
