Matching the completely redesigned body is an all-new interior that finally brings the Australian engineered truck right up to date, while a longer wheelbase and wider tracks help with how the Ranger drives over a broader spectrum of situations. To that end, we take a late-stage Wildtrak V6 prototype to Ford’s You Yangs proving ground, to see how it behaves around the brand’s famous ride/handling track, as well as over the demanding 4x4 course. Much is riding on the newcomer’s success, including the company’s fortunes in Australia. Finally, as the likely last fully-developed mainstream model in this country, the new Ranger represents the end of an era. Will it be the best ute on sale when it arrives against other 4x4 pickup trucks like the new VW Amarok, Isuzu DMax, Toyota HiLux, Mazda BT50 and all the others? We certainly think so.
