Description: October 2019 - i only stayed in rome a couple days in my travels across europe, but it was so lovely. on the very first night that i arrived i unexpectedly passed by multiple monuments on my way to have dinner. (the colosseum, the pantheon, the trevi fountain) after also viewing these places the next day i can undoubtedly say that i recommend viewing them at night, they are so much more magical somehow. i stopped for brunch at ristorante museo canova tadolini, it almost seemed a crime that they did not charge an entry fee to this place. the cafe was once the studio of antonio canova and his apprentice tadolini, so the tables are nestled in between all of their sculptures and tools. quite possibly my favorite cafe in the world. of course i had to visit the vatican museums and while it was very pretty and interesting and filled with amazing art pieces and grand architecture, i'll have to admit i was a bit put off by how gaudy it was. the real treasures of rome, i think, can be found on the streets. at statues lining bridges or carved into the sides of buildings at random intersections. and you'll find some of the most beautiful paintings on the ceilings of random cathedrals. we wandered into so many, whenever we came across them, and always always found that they were more beautiful than anything in the vatican.
