Description: Second Chances Wildlife Sanctuary is mainly a kangaroo and wallaby sanctuary, however Catherine raises the occasional possum joey and does soft releases of other joeys on her property. She only takes females for release because there needs to be a balance skewed towards females otherwise the males fight for territory. Lil Abner, her current joey, arrived in his dead mother's pouch, most likely a victim of a car hit. She's raised him since he was a little pinkie and he's graduating to the big cage soon prior to going outside and growing up in an outdoor aviary until he's ready for a soft release into the locality. Every afternoon Catherine cuts up fruit and vegetables and greens and does the round of the possum boxes with some apple for the wild ones and the previous releases, and the full veggie and fruit mix for the in care possums. Gilligan and his mum Mary Ann are in an aviary because Mary Ann is blind with cataracts, so she's raising her baby until he's ready for release. Gilligan loves the sweet potato and peas, and mum Mary Ann's favourite is the sweet corn. Various wild or returned release possums inhabit various of the boxes around the property occasionally or regularly. Hagatha is in soft release so she can come and go if she chooses and there will always be some food for her in the cage until she no longer needs it. She has little sorties out of the cage and returns some mornings but not always. The support food will be reduced until she no longer needs it.
