Though he is, in moments, placed with or against Clark, Bruce is never meant to be a direct juxtaposition in the more traditional sense. Instead, he is a mysterious antagonist, a sinister manipulator, a dangerous adversary and ultimately, a powerful ally. When all is said and done, his genius and madness, his imperfect but incredible mission to protect first just his city, and then the world, serves as the flashpoint that causes Clark Kent to become Superman.
