Description: The Met x Wikipedia: Afrofuturist Period Room wiki campaign is a virtual edit-a-thon running throughout February 2022. WHEN: Saturday February 5, 2022, 12-2 pm Eastern US. hosted by the Metropolitan Museum of Art with Wikimedia NYC as a virtual online event. The event focuses on The Met's new period room "Before Yesterday We Could Fly" as a particularly data-rich and intertextual exhibition that brings together historical, modern and contemporary African diaspora art and history, to be further developed as community crowdsourced resources on Wikipedia and Wikidata. PERIOD ROOM: metmuseum.org/exhibitions/listings/2021/afrofuturist-period-room Wikipedians, and the public are all welcome to participate. No experience necessary. The Met + Wikipedia team will provide working lists of objects and artists, as well as training on creating and editing articles, adding keywords to images, and adding content to Wikidata. Afterwards, the team will be available to answer questions and provide guidance on a chat channel we will provide during the session.
