I can't imagine this sort of thing happening to my friends and family. I've been fortunate in my life to not been on the receiving end of any physical attacks due to the colour of my skin but I've had racist remarks yelled at me from cars and, even as recent as last weekend, from the checkout line of the damn grocery store. (Not to mention all the racial microaggressions I'm sure we've all have faced in one way or another.) I don't expect to raise thousands of dollars for this initiative but I need to use the platform I have been given to try to at least make a difference - plus every little bit helps.
