It uses strict efficient alternate picking, and it also has a quick hand move so that you break away from that boxy style of playing. Furthermore, moving the hand in this way will force you to really know where you are on the neck. The lick is also designed around the chord, and I can't emphasize enough how important it is to connect licks and chords. I recommend you make up your own chord progressions and play this in all 12 keys. It will help you learn your away around the fretboard better. I teach music theory, blues, rock, funk, country, scales, chords, triads... and much more. My website lessons come with Soundslice, which makes it incredibly easy to learn.
