Description: More students and families today are weighing whether the costs of college are worth it given rising tuition costs. They equate a college degree with higher income levels. A college/university experience, however, isn't simply about the transactional nature of receiving credit for courses completed to earn that degree. Instructors and institutions hope that students don't simply complete courses for the sake of checking off a requirement that may not have any relevance to their future career. We hope that students have the type of richer, meaningful learning experiences that can transform individuals. In this session, Dr. Norma Hernandez discusses the differences between transactional and transformational learning for students and the types of support systems that institutions can provide to engage students in transformational learning.
