Description: According to a new study just published in the journal, "Nature," more than one in five reptile species are threatened with extinction. However, many will benefit from conservation efforts already underway to save other animals. This study present the first comprehensive extinction risk assessment for all reptiles on the International Union for Conservation of Nature's "Red List of Threatened Species," and provides information critical to future conservation efforts. With support from the U.S. National Science Foundation, this research was led by researchers at NatureServe, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and Conservation International.
