Description: Road Closed! But that doesn't stop dozens of motorists from ignoring the signs and dangerously driving across an active 4-Way railroad crossing with 50 MPH freight trains. I spent the afternoon of August 17 at the unique four-way crossing in Richland, where Main & Race Street—the town's two main roads—intersect with a busy two track mainline right in the town square. With this being the only grade crossing in Richland, the presence of a train literally divides the town in half, since the square is at the geographical center. Since the crossing was closed for 24 hours, I figured I could document the crossing, getting shots of the trains without many cars around, but I WAS WRONG! Check out this video of the same crossing where someone breaks the crossing gate! youtube.com/watch?v=rDZnAyDw73I There weren't any close calls but I was concerned the gates would start going down as someone was slowly driving across, causing them to panic and freeze on the spot. By the afternoon, the sun came out and it was train after train! Eventually, workers showed up the remove the signs.
