As your body is changing and your bump becomes more prominent, you might be tempted to sleep on your back. Well, you should know that such sleep positions are not encouraged - numerous studies have confirmed that sleeping on your back reduces the blood flow to the uterus, having a negative impact on the development of the baby. Back sleeping can influence your health as well, increasing the risk for muscle cramps and hemorrhoids. It can also cause a drop in blood pressure, due to the vena cava being compressed by the growing uterus. For this reason, you might want to refrain from sitting or standing up all of a sudden. Last, but not least, back sleeping can increase the risk for sleep apnea (especially as you are gaining weight). How to sleep during pregnancy?
