I’ve been using the Sony LinkBuds true wireless earbuds for a couple of weeks now before the review, and they do a whole lot right — but not everything. What makes them so unique? The ring-shaped driver in the odd-looking earbuds allows sounds to reach your ear with very little in the way, allowing you to hear the outside world as clearly as if you weren't wearing headphones at all. They're also made for folks who don't enjoy the feeling of inserting a plunger into their ear. The LinkBuds, unlike most earbuds, don't go all the way into your ear canal; instead, they rest comfortably outside. These days, noise-canceling headphones generally come with a "transparency" option that utilizes built-in microphones to let outside sounds enter your ears. The problem is that most noise-canceling headphones' transparency mode isn't great - I think Apple has mastered getting it right, while other companies have struggled. The LinkBuds sound just like nothing; the sound quality is so transparent that you could wear them all day (if you don't mind being that guy). With full transparency, just about everyone should be able to hear what's going on around them while wearing LinkBuds.
