So why did her condition become so advanced? In her case, though it looks like an ever-growing tumor, her condition is just a malformation that she was born with and that keeps growing proportionally to her size. This lymphatic malformation is present in 4000 births and is usually not life-threatening as much as it is a physical appearance issue. The huge enlargement of her face is caused by multiple cysts which are sacs containing lymphatic fluid. The operation is risky and doctors didn't agree yet on when to operate. Her parents said that they will be happy if doctors are able to reduce the size of her mass by even 50% before it grows bigger. Olivia, like girls her age, loves music and dance and is still young to realize that she looks different from other kids though, as her mother reports, they stare and sometimes aggressively try to touch her face out of curiosity. Because it's not easy to treat, her parents decided to tell her story to the media to raise awareness, promote acceptance and reduce stigma about physical differences.
