Description: Former Afghan politician Fawzia Koofi says Afghan women “don’t need” the Taliban to tell them what to wear. “When they took over power on the 15th of August, the first thing they did in contradiction with Islamic principles … they stopped girls from going to school,” Ms Koofi said. Ms Koofi, who fled Afghanistan last year when the Taliban took over, said the “women of Afghanistan have always remained Muslim” and the hijab “is acceptable”. She said the “last thing” the Taliban did was “another decree asking women of Afghanistan to wear their favourite hijab, which is burqa”. “We don’t need Taliban to tell us,” she said.
