Description: Hi Everyone :) Welcome back! I get asked often: "Where did you get all this stuff?" My goal is to share the real magic of science and physics- and to this end I will update here (and in my store) suggestions on where to get some of these toys, kinetic art pieces, and scientific curiosities for yourself. Buy physicsfun toys on : bit.ly/2MOjFET Follow on Instagram : instagram.com/physicsfun USA special This video contains: ๐๐ป Lenticular Flip Astronomy Postcard ๐๐ป The Levimoon: this detailed moon globe is an adjustable lamp that levitates! Charged through wireless induction via the base, the moon floats above the Earth while illuminated from the inside to reveal the major features of the lunar surface, and will rotate when given a slight push. ๐๐ป Solar Eclipse Scale Model: the 3.3 inch Moon casts its shadow onto a 12 inch Earth globe as the Sun sets over the bluffs of the Central Coast. The Earth, Moon, and the distance between them (lunar orbit radius) are all to scale in this simulation of a solar eclipse. The Moon orbits the Earth at an average distance of 30 Earth diameters, or 30 feet away at this scale. Leaving tomorrow to drive to Oregon to see the total eclipse! Video shot on the cliffs just north of Cayucos CA. ๐๐ป Lunar Eclipse April 14, 2014 ๐๐ป Universe Sphere: 380000 laser etched dots, each dot representing a galaxy of stars, reveals the largest scale structure of our universe. This glass sphere contains a 3D mapping of galaxies in a volume of our universe spanning 800 million lightyears in diameter, and shows the clumping and distribution as seen by automated telescopic surveys such as that found in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey data. Hold a chunk of the universe in your hand! ๐๐ป The Milky Way in a Sphere: the distribution of stars in our home galaxy, laser etched into a crystal sphere, according to the most recent telescopic surveys and mappings- including the stars in the Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy. ๐๐ป Scale Jupiter and Earth ๐๐ป Scale Saturn with Ring System and Earth ๐๐ป 2016 Transit of Mercury ๐๐ป JSC MARS-1 Martian Soil Simulent ๐๐ป JSC-1 Lunar Soil Simulant ๐๐ป Vintage Celestial Globe ๐๐ป Celestial Sphere ๐๐ป Big Dipper in a Box ๐๐ป Airplane Glory: optical phenomenon that forms rings of color in the clouds- in this case around the shadow of my 737 flight, and is not the same physical process as that of a rainbow. Airplane glories are produce only by very tiny droplets (tens of visible light wavelengths across) in the cloud, and arise due to complex process called wave tunneling, where the electromagnetic waves that make the colors are induced in the drop by a photon only passing close by its surface. Interestingly, the exact details of this phenomenon is still an active area of research! ๐๐ป Thermocromic Eclipse Postage Stamps ๐๐ป Vertical Nanotube Array Absorber Set ๐๐ป Earth Mass Black Hole: this sphere of tungsten alloy has a diameter of 17.7mm, a precision representation of the size of the event horizon of a black hole with a mass equal to that of the Earth! If the entire mass of the earth could somehow be compressed to the size of this sphere, it would indeed collapse to a black hole with an event horizon defined by a Schwarzschild radius of 8.87mm. For comparison a black hole with the mass of the sun would be 6km across. ๐๐ป Globe of the CMB ๐๐ป Scale Model of PlutoโCharon Binary System: shown here with each object in orbit around their common center of mass. The orbit distance of Plutoโs primary moon Charon is only 8.2 Pluto diameters away (very close!), and because Charon is 1/2 the size (and 1/8 the mass) of its parent planet, their common center of mass is far outside Plutoโs surface. (For comparison our Moon is 30 Earth diameters away.) BONUS CLIP The Planets of Our Solar System to Scale: 3D printed accurate scale model of 8 planets and Earthโs moon. In this model: Earth (diameter = 0.80 cm) and Jupiter (diameter = 9.0 cm). Wonderful detail allowed by the 3D printing process reproduces the belting on the gas giants. The rings of Saturn are printed on transparency film. Made by artist/maker Jay Fisher using images from NASA.
