Description: The longest venomous snakes in Australia, the king brown snake is a very dangerous animal with occasional specimen reaching close to 10 foot in total length. Although highly venomous they will reluctantly strike when first disturbed but can become angry when provoked and will flatten out their neck and try to bite, their venom output is also quite large and this is another factor that makes them highly dangerous. The King Brown shelters in burrows, rock piles, logs and their prey consists of small mammals, birds, snakes, lizards, and frogs. Here I get close and personal with one, but they are not to be played around with. When bitten the envenoming is often severe and potentially lethal, deaths from the King Brown's bite are uncommon to rare. It is still essential all cases be managed as an emergency, requiring rapid application of first aid and urgent medical assessment for some cases with systemic envenoming, which may develop in less than 15 minutes after the snake bite.
