Description: To victims of injustice, and to our AAPI community. In this world, I know we will see pain and suffering. We will see trials of many kinds. I know that hate exists when others see people as expendable. In this video you will see my Lolo & Lola (grandparents) who worked tirelessly, prayed daily, to love and build into this large extended family. They were not rich with material wealth, but so richly blessed with family that would ultimately carry the blessings into the community. No one can take away their joy. It is eternal, no matter what happens. We try to teach our children what we were taught. “Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.” We go on to teach love and live love, as long as we have breath by the grace of God. My sister narrates her poem over the video: Grace by Sarah Gambito You will transcend your ancestor’s suffering You will pick a blue ball. You will throw it to yourself. You will be on the other side to receive. Green leaves grow around your face. Hair stands on your body. You look at old photographs that say: The bread is warm! A child is a blessing! That’s what I said! I meant it! You could say this is a poem. Like the great halves of the roof that caved and carved together. Found us before words and tender-footing. Before wrongdoing and the octaves of blue above us all. ***** My Lolo’s prayer which is spoken in Tagalog starts with: “Our Almighty God, Who created things that are seen and unseen, Who deserves all the glory, and the majesty and the power from now and forevermore.”
