If you know me you know I love nostalgia and after asking if The Sims 1 was the most nostalgic game in the world, a close contender would definitely be its successor. The Sims 2 moved away from the relaxing waves of bossa nova and its origins as an architect simulator, fully embracing the quirky charm that permeated the Sims universe. The sights and sounds of The Sims 2 were so potent in character that anyone who played the game had its experience imprinted in our minds. You might completely forget the game but the moment you hear its jaunty tunes the memories come flooding back. Now, this is where I would tell you where to buy The Sims 2... IF EA SOLD IT! We know EA could easily sell The Sims 2. They even gave it away free for a while on their launcher but then they removed it. Maybe because so many players of The Sims say The Sims 2 is the best one, notably better than The Sims 4, so perhaps EA is insecure about sales of The Sims 4? Which would be weird considering The Sims 4 is already the best selling Sims game in the series... so honestly who knows why they refuse to sell the older games. Anyway, you can't stop The Sims community and there are still places to get the game. There are also fan-made performance patches, graphics fixers, and slew of graphics mods that could even get the game looking up to modern standards. Today, I'm not looking to install a ton of mods but the community has provided a great experience with minimal effort and I want to step back into the game to see if it's still superior compared to its modern interpretations. I think the big question is, which is the better game... The Sims 2 or 3? Time to look back at neighbourhoods, character creation, house building, and gameplay to see if we're remembering The Sims 2 correctly as just a plumbob-shaped gem of a game it's meant to be. You can find The Sims 2 Complete Collection on Archive.org archive.org/details/TheSims2UltimateCollection This is a guide on how to get the game running on Windows 10 pleasantsims.com/sims-2-windows-10 - Apply the 4GB patch - Make sure you run the Graphics Rules Maker as Administrator (This will get The Sims 2 into HD widescreen) - If you want to run the game in Windowed Mode then add " -w" to the end of the 'Target' field when you Right Click - Properties the shortcut - For my recording here and multi-monitor setup, the game refused to run on my primary monitor which is 2K resolution. It would run on my second monitor that's 1440x900. So what I did was I plugged my PC into a 1080p monitor/TV and set the Graphics Rules Maker to make the game 1080p. Then I set the game to run in Windowed Mode and dragged it over to my primary monitor, which was set at 2560x1440 and only 125% scaling. Now I have the game running at 1080p in a window on my higher resolution primary monitor so I can capture 1080p video and play it where I want to, even if it's not full screen for me.
