Description: More on 611: vmt.org/class-j-no-611 Strasburg Rail Road: strasburgrailroad.com Norfolk and Western number 611 is one of the most famous excursion steam locomotives in the United States. It was built in house by the Norfolk and Western Railroad in 1950 at their Roanoke, Virginia shops. Since initial retirement in 1959, the locomotive has had two excursion careers, the first for the Norfolk Southern Railroad from 1982 through 1994 and the second for the Virginia Museum of Transportation from 2015 onward. In both 2019 and 2021, 611 traveled to the Strasburg Railroad in Strasburg, Pennsylvania for some excursions over their rail line through the countryside. During the 2019 visit, a special Norfolk and Western themed photo and video shoot was held featuring the 611 alongside the Strasburg Rail Road’s own N&W locomotive - 4-8-0 “Mastodon” type number 475. Let's go back to October of 2019 for a look at the Norfolk and Western Steam Reunion at the Strasburg Rail Road. CoasterFan2105 is the home of all sorts of train and railroad related video content.
