Description: The blood came crawling from his hair; unnaturally, she thought, like a low-budget movie with a little tube pumping in red dye just offscreen. But it didn’t smell like dye in the crumpled-up cabin of his red truck, and the only camera running was hers. They’d been on a sightseeing tour through the redwoods, up and down the coast for the holidays. Between clicks of her Christmas present, she spent each resulting lull in the car thinking of how to tell him it was over. He’d always been a fan of calculating obscure anniversaries of theirs, and told her that morning that they’d been together for 4 years, 3 months, 2 weeks and 1 day. A countdown if ever there was one, she thought. She didn’t believe much in superstition, but she still saw it as a sign. She’d do it today, before the New Year’s Eve party, when they were back home... Those plans now laid somewhere in the tall grass of the frontage road, strewn amongst the glass and metal. In a movie, by this point she would have heard sirens chirping in the distance, red and blue lights washing over their faces. But no one was coming, and she knew only one of them was leaving this truck. She unclipped her seat belt and fell onto the ceiling with a wet thud. Grimacing, he reached out for her, trying to put a brave face on the end of things, doing about as poor of a job as he did wrapping her gift. Instinctively, she recoiled from his bloodied hand. Through red teeth, he tried apologizing: “Your…hair…” A wave of guilt washed over her instantly, but she didn’t do anything about it. She didn’t lean in to let him fix her hair, she didn’t say a word - she just sat, kneeling in shock, giving him the meager honor of being present. Unable to reach her, he instead cracked a bitter smile, knowing he’d have to try another way. “Four…th…three…two…one. Action.” Just then, her camera shut off with a loud whine. Looking to the LCD screen, a flash of blue seemed to dance across the black. When she looked back up, his eyes were closed. ***** Friends and fans of DUDE BRO PARTY MASSACRE III, your attention please!
